His totally improvised virtuoso solo concerts have been thanked widely in his homecountry and at many international venues in Europe, USA & Canada. Esa Pietilä performs his solo concerts on regular basis in art galleries, churches & festivals etc. The latest of his performances was recorded at Temppeliaukio Church in Helsinki (sept. 2012). The Church is world-famous from its original architecture and its exceptional sound to perform concerts. The cd release of the concert is planned for winter season 2012 / 2013

     Virtuosity and the powerful presence of his free-jazz oriented playing combined with multitude textures of avant garde sounds belong into the elite of saxophone expression. His capabilities to let the saxophone ring from variety of minimalism whispers to full free blowing results a rich palette of colourful shapes of multiphonics, chordal tones, rhythmic surprises, and even into a fuga-like approach. Esa´s "inner dialogue" and sense of form shapes the dramaturgy of a concert. His expression is also strongly influenced by visual arts & poetry that color his ideas into a musical fireworks of sound.

The Concerts are totally improvised and not beforehand planned, which makes them interesting and unique performances. A concert lasts approx one hour.

  Esa Pietila is known by performing the  International jazz festivals with his Trio, Quartet and solo concerts for over 10 years. His original style of performing the avant garde / improvised freeform jazz has been widely presented in many countries.
