THIRD EDITION OF VALAMAR JAZZ FESTIVAL BRINGS RENOWN
INTERNATIONAL JAZZ PERFORMERS TO ISTRIA - June 20 to 24
We are happy to announce the 3rd Valamar Jazz Festival, which is traditionally held in
Poreč. This year the festival will take place on a new date, from June 20 to 24. Festival's
director Tamara Obrovac, renowned Croatian musician, and her crew have again prepared a
musical program that few jazz aficionados will be able to resist but book in their calendar. Even
though the schedule has shifted ahead a little, the days will be long, nights cozy, and the sea
warm enough to jazz up the rich festival program.
The show starts on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 with the performance of Croatian singer Marko
Tolja at the Lapidarium of the Heritage Museum of Poreč, who will sing the familiar jazz tunes
accompanied by Croatian musicians.
Last year's success encouraged us to stage the Ralph Towner's guitar recital in the atrium of
the adorable Euphrasian Basilica. This will no doubt be an unforgettable experience.
From Friday, June 22 to Sunday, June 24, the program will continue at the main venue, the
enchanting Island of Sv. Nikola just across the town's waterfront. The stage is set at the shore
for such great jazz musicians as Enrico Rava (Italy), Joey Calderazzo (USA), Cæcilie
Norby (Denmark, Sweden), Hugh Masekela (South African Republic), and Fred
Wesley (USA) and their bands.
The festival crew has a few other events up their sleeve, so that the vibe spreads all over the
town, including the street performances of young jazz musicians, a jazz photography show,
morning jams in local cafés, midnight jam sessions, and after party programs.
