The idea for the nostalgia trio slept in Nils Wogram for many many years. It all began from his love for extraordinary trios
with the Hammond organ from the numerous sessions in Harlem during his time in New York. And this third CD of the trio,
founded in 2004, is the real thing. The band just plays around with the fat grooves. The opening piece already invites the
funky neighbor to a dance party. But Wogram would not be Wogram if he didn’t also rely on unconventional beats (“Friday
the 13th”), reggae and pop arithmetic shimmering with melodica (“Swing ‘em Home”), stomping analog fake electronic beats
(“Copenhagen”) and epic melody and harmony arcs (“Fundamentals”), in addition to the obligatory syncopated 4/4 trips through
time. Yet, in spite of all forward pressing, swinging powers (“Sturm & Drang,” “Now”), the CD remains a warm drug that penetrates
deep into the heart à la Lenny Kravitz (“Country Rain”), which is addictive, but, thank god, doesn’t make one dependent.

Info
The exceptional German trombonist Nils Wogram – as a solo trombonist currently in high demand –
is fulfilling with the Nostalgia Trio a wish he has long held.
In the last few years, Nils Wogram has quickly become one of the most closely watched jazz trombonists of the young European generation. His CD releases have
been euphorically praised by the press for their polished compositions that are brilliantly performed. The idea for the Nostalgia Trio has been slumbering in Nils Wogram
for many years. His love for the trio format with Hammond organ originated in New York on numerous sessions in Harlem during his musical education! His partners are
Arno Krijger on Hammond organ and Dejan Terzic on drums. The Nostalgia Trio would like to transport a stirring and feastful mood, without being stamped as pure plagiarists.
The compositions provide the originality, carrying the clear signature of Wogram and his willful interpretation. All trio members have their roots deep in the jazz tradition. They have
made a name for themselves as band leaders and developed an unmistakable, individual sound on their instruments. A stirring concert can be expected, one that bestows
listeners with bluesy moments, mixed with those that are yearning, bizarre and humorous.
Press Comments
Trieste, May 2008
"Quiet in the Evening".

A retrospective beginning of a festival continued with current music, the latter of which is perhaps more adequate to KiFF [Kultur in Futterfabrik, ‘Culture in the Fodder F
actory,’ a venue in Switzerland]. This all happened, although the band that determined Friday evening calls itself the “Nostalgia Trio.” The German trombonist Nils
Wogram, who has been living in Zurich, Switzerland for a while, presented himself as a quasi-traditionalist with an organ trio. That three exceptional musicians are at work
here was immediately clear. At the moment, Wogram is simply one of the best trombonists anywhere, and with the Cologne organist Florian Ross, who got his antique
furniture to groove, the walls began to sweat. The pieces Wogram wrote for his great “Bebop Band,” as he calls it, are rather Meta-Bop. Again and again, they skidded within
a hair’s breadth past the listeners’ expectations. The improvisations of the three musicians (on the drums was Dejan Terzic) are equally distant from the tradition. In spite
of this, they made references to it.
Jazzfestival Aarau, Switzerland
“... the condition of weightlessness between tradition and a new era. So easy-going and vital has the trombonist – certainly the most important and artistically most interesting
German trombonist of the present – ... seldom been heard. Along with the organist Florian Ross and the drummer Dejan Terzic, the trombonist ignited a fireworks of contemporary
improvisational expression, which is the result of a playful, confident way of dealing with the essence of Bebop and Hardbop and does not stick to the fashion of the past.”
