Saskia ‘s music mix in 2012

Trumpet player Saskia Laroo from Amsterdam performs frequently outside of her home country the Netherlands. 

Her mission is to connect people through original music in multicultural settings. 

Cultmix Foundation, in support of Saskia ‘s work, wants to inform you of her new plans for 2012.

The year 2011 has been and still is quite busy with headline performances  by the Saskia Laroo Band (electric jazz)

on international jazz festivals in India, Brazil, Canada, Belgium, Poland and Finland to name a few.

In the coming year Saskia is looking forward to tours in Mexico, the USA and Oman with her Saskia Laroo Band,

and to Panama with her latin-jazz formation Salsabop. Other pending tour stops are Ukraine, South Africa and Montenegro.

Saskia has released a new album on her record label Laroo Records this summer in a duo setting with pianist Warren Byrd (acoustic jazz).

Title of this CD is Two of a Kind – a tribute to Miles and Monk.

Prior five releases on her label include pure jazz besides funk, world and dance improvisations. 

A new pop-jazz album is in the planning.

A few notable career highlights include the winning the Karmaveer Puraskaar Peace Award in India in 2010,

reaching the finals in the International Song Competition in 2006, and live performances and CD's released in more than fifty countries.

Saskia's creative impetus is the musical blending of tradition and innovation as inspired by "the peopled now".

She is honored to be a model of female entrepreneurship and self-realization.

Short biography:

Saskia Laroo, hailed by American public and press at large as "Lady Miles of Europe", is one of the few women trumpet stylists, blowing for more than three decades.

Born July 31, 1959 in Amsterdam, she began on trumpet at age 8, never dreaming of becoming a professional musician. That all changed when Saskia, turned 18,

after briefly majoring in mathematics at University of Amsterdam switched her focus to a career in music. She worked extensively in various groups from this point,

at first mostly on upright bass, though eventually, on both bass and trumpet; the trumpet became her main  instrument.

Saskia Laroo combines today's music by un-contrived romps into new styles, eagerly limned as "nu jazz" or "swingin' body-music"--

a vivacious blend of hip-hop, jazz, salsa, funk reggae, and world, that many other artists dare not venture.

Her artistry and her groove ring vibrantly and free on her six albums journeying us through the music she has absorbed and plays from heart and soul.
