DAMILY
"& tsapiky group"

olivier Araste

Damily, the guitarist and symbolic figure of tsapiky (the music from south east Madagascar), founded the eponymous group during a lengthy career that began in 1985. Damily and his musicians are considered masters of the genre. With this group, you can be sure that things are going to get hot.
These five musicians with twenty five years experience in the art of the parteee, will be setting the stage with their compositions : from wildly electric Tsapiky to simple instrumental and nostalgic village songs, they are the way to discover popular culture from the Tulear ghetto. Virtuoso musicians, they have grown without paying heed to trends that  have influenced Madgascar’s music, remaining refreshingly natural.

Press:
Mondomix, August 2011 :
"Tsapiky became the most popular sound across the region, its upbeat trance tempo and trademark rapid-fire guitar could well gather more fans around the world thanks to Damily"

Frootsmag, July 2011:
"They're the real deal, nothing watered down or smoothed out for european sensibilities"

Afropop Worldwide - November 2011:
"One of the most joyous releases of 2011, Damily's acoustic take on the boogieing southern Madagascar dance music style called tsapiky is breathless and beautiful. Damily's fleet riffing, and the keening, ecstatic vocal hooks on these songs ride on the updraft of a taut, feisty rhythm section. A perfect marriage of lyricism and groove."
