Kasba's new album Sodfa, an ode to the coincidence.
 

 

 
The new album of Dutch Moroccan band Kasba is released. The album Sodfa, which means "coincidentally" contains ten brand new tracks that the band recorded last year in the Netherlands and in Morocco. The  album has both North African and more Western-oriented tracks. For the album Kasba worked with the Moroccan producer Abdessamad Errahbi. With the new album "Sodfa" Kasba also celebrates its tenth anniversary and looks back on a happy and successful decade.
 
The tracks on Sodfa were created in collaboration with the Moroccan producer Abdessamad Errahbi. It was no coincidence for the group to work with the producer with whom they previously recorded the succesfull acoustic album "Darna". In contradiction to the acoustic album Darna, Sodfa contains more solid, energetic and danceable songs with the distinctive Kasba sound. The album varies considerably in terms of timbre. Influences of classic North African music are on the album ad well as more pop oriented songs. Coincidence brought all influences together during the recordings.  So this album became again an uncomplicated mix where Kasba combines musicality and energy.

 

The release of the album falls together with the tenth anniversary of Kasba. Formed in 2001, the last ten years the band has grown into one of the most successful music groups of the Netherlands and Belgium in the field of non-Western music. The title "Sodfa" (Coincidence) also characterizes the way Kasba the past ten years has experienced her musical career. By coincidence, the band was asked to play at the wedding of prince Willem Alexander and princess Maxima in the Ajax Amsterdam Stadium. And coincidentally it was also one of the weaker songs from the album Chouf Chouf that turned out to be a huge number one hit in Morocco. So what Kasba has been wondering the last ten years is if coincidence plays an important role in making music or not? To believe in coincidence, you have to be naive, curious, impulsive and open to feel music. If you do not, then you make premeditated, planned and predictable music, and you could almost start to believe ... ... ... .... you can control coincidence.
