Young Nordic Jazz Comets, a musical competition for jazz bands and musicians of 26 years of age and below, is now held for the tenth time. This year, the Finnish Jazz Federation is proud to host the competition in Helsinki, at the newly-opened jazz club Birdland. All in all seven bands from the Nordic countries are set to perform – a selection which can justly be considered an extensive peek into the young and upcoming Nordic scene contemporary jazz. The jury for YNJC 2010 includes the Spanish sax player Perico Sambeat, the director of the Irish 12 Points festival, Gerry Godley, and the Greek pianist, Georgios Kontrafouris. The jury band ”Kontrafouris & Sambeat Group” performed at the event as well, followed by a jam session. ___________________________________________________
