The Reluctantly Politicised Mr. James is the second album by Spin Marvel, a group that wowed critics on their debut self-titled album in 2005. Led by drummer Martin France, it features some of Europe’s most progressive improvisers and finest musicians and, with the addition of celebrated trumpeter Nils Peter Molvaer, marks a giant leap forward for the band and reflects some of the most exciting music currently bursting out of the European scene. With specially commissioned artwork by German artist Holger Theunert, who has beautifully captured the colours and textures so evident in the music through five stunning portraits of each band member, The Reluctantly Politicised Mr. James is an album bursting with ideas and one that will leave you wanting more.

PHRONESIS - Alive

JASPER HOIBY - double bass
IVO NEAME - piano

MARK GUILIANA - drums

Cat No: EDN1021
UK Release Date: 26th July 2010

Phronesis have the ability to excite, inspire and move people in a way that few bands are able to do. Since the release of their second album Green Delay in 2009, Phronesis, led by Danish double-bassist Jasper Høiby, have captured the hearts and minds of British audiences and have developed a fierce reputation as one of the most formidable trios in the UK. With a recent acclaimed performance at Banlieues Bleues Festival in Paris behind them and their first appearance at the North Sea Jazz Festival just ahead, Phronesis release their third album ‘Alive’, recorded live at the Forge Arts Venue in London, which not only confirms their reputation but looks set to escalate them to the forefront of the European contemporary jazz scene.

DAVE STAPLETON QUINTET - Between the Lines

 EDN1017

“Stapleton has develop his own music full of melody, atmosphere and tough grooves. Ben Waghorn and Jonny Bruce shine on the front line, but the real achievement is one of compositional and ensemble rigour”. MOJO ****

"Regular jazz lineups are hard to sustain in the choppy waters of the jazz economy. Worthy successors to head-turning first albums are just as tough a proposition. And running an influential jazz record label is probably harder than both. The Wales-based pianist and composer Dave Stapleton has done all three: an ebullient third album, made for the label he co-founded, by the same powerful quintet he started out with". GUARDIAN ****

CURIOS - The Other Place

EDN1018

“Brims with confidence, accomplishment and no little flair” JAZZWISE ****

“Curios are a group right on top of their game. This is piano trio jazz of the highest order” THE JAZZ MANN

“A fine trio, entitled to its big reputation” GUARDIAN
