Mostly Jazz Festival
Mostly Jazz Festival is the UK’s newest jazz festival and the only, open air, one site festival, exclusively dedicated to contemporary jazz, funk and soul.
Set in the lush surroundings of Moseley Park, Birmingham’s eleven-acre woodland glade only two miles from the city centre. July 3rd & 4th 2010 is set to be a weekend to remember, we hope you can join us there. We'll be using 2 stages sitting right next to each other to showcase our artists. During changeovers on the main stage you need only turn your head to catch the freshest up and coming talent on our second stage. On Sunday Birmingham Jazz will be hosting the second stage, programming a day of highly talented local Jazz musicians.

Gilad is one of the hardest working musicians in the country. Saxophonist, band leader, producer, writer and Blockhead it’s a small wonder he has time to tour at all. This date is the last of a UK tour for this project which features Gilad’s Orient House Ensemble and the Sigamos String Quartet playing interpretations of Charlie Parker’s legendary Strings recordings, as well as some new works by Gilad. The combination of Atzmon’s unparalleled bebop virtuosity with stunning string arrangements promises to create a special performance.

Led Bib

Wednesday 27th January
Jazz club at The Rainbow
9pm, £4

With a Mercury Music Prize nomination under their belt for their latest release Sensible Shoes this band really is firing on all cylinders for their return to Jazz Club. The band are not just some Johnny-come-latelies however, their Mercury nomination was for their fourth album. Add to that extensive touring around the UK, and you get a band which are sounding tighter and more mature than ever before. Their sound owes as much to rock as it does to jazz, and is “like a hot chainsaw through butter” (The Wire). We can’t wait!

This event will be the launch of the Mostly Jazz Festival.
