Johnny Clegg is one of South Africa´s most celebrated sons. He is a singer, a songwriter, a dancer, anthropologist and a musical activist whose infectious crossover music, a vibrant blend of Western pop and African Zulu rhythms, has exploded onto the international scene and broken through all the barriers in his own country.
Over three decades, Johnny Clegg has sold over five million albums of his brand of crossover music worldwide (greatest hits: Scatterlings, Asimbonanga). He has wowed vast audiences with his audacious live shows and won a number of national and international awards for his music and for his outspoken views on apartheid, his perspectives on migrant workers in South Africa and the general situation in the world today.

Highlights 2006-2009: Support act for Robbie Williams in Durban, Pretoria and Cape Town and support for the Oscar movie "Tsotsi" at the Cannes film festival. The South African Football Association chooses Freshlyground as a cultural ambassador for the 2010 FIFA world cup. Doo Be Doo enters the charts in Italy. Freshlyground receive the "European MTV Award" for "Best African Act 2006". European Tours - highlights include performance with B.B. King in Paris, and festivals like the Africa Festival Wuerzburg. Nomvula reaches 5 times platinum sales and Doo Be Doo becomes the most played single in South Africa. Their third album "Ma Chéri", is released and goes platinum.

Freshlyground nominated in seven categories for South African Music Awards - winning four categories & winning Album of the Year and Best Band 2008. Various major festivals 2009 and TV presence 2009: Freshlyground performed at the AVO Session Basel (with Hugh Masekela & The Mahothella Queens) last year in November - the concert was on TV several times in various countries all over Europe this year. LATEST NEWS: Freshlyground works on their next album together with the producer Fabrice Dupont. Fabrice (known as "Fab") has worked with Bon Jovi, Jennifer Lopez, Toots & the Maytals, and Queen Latifah, among others.
