The 11th International Dixieland festival of Tarragona - the great event of traditional jazz in Spain and the only specialized festival devoted to this variety of modern music- , celebrated every year during the week before Easter, has two main focal points this year.
On the one hand, it commemorates the centenary of the birth of the mythical conductor and pianist Count Basie with several activities that will cover his career from the beginning to his most successful years. Both the opening and the closing performances will be dedicated to Count Basie. Also, they
will be the absolute premiere of the Big Band from the Aula Music’s from Tarragona, and the premiere in Spain of the new performance offered by the Michel Pastre Big Band (France), precisely dedicated to this centenary. On the other hand, the Festival will foster the relationship between brass bands and the world of circus. In this sense, the Jaipur Kawa Brass Band from India will be the main group, although other Spanish bands like the Dixie Rue del Percebe or the Tandarica Orkestar from Tarragona will also
There will be 20 different settings -theatres, cafés, restaurants and other locations-, 6 itineraries for the musical walks, 20 bands, 160 musicians from scheduled bands, apart from a growing number of musicians who join Dixie jams, 80 activities from 9:30 am to 3 am and over 20.000 spectators and 3.000 children will discover Dixieland.
