L'Esprit Manouche 2004

L’Esprit Manouche 2003 has proven the point. The international demand for a repeat has been overwhelming. Riding the crest of the wave of resurgence of this music, coupled with the input of the gypsy culture/scene, L’Esprit Manouche announces the 2004 dates as the 10th – 11th July 2004 with the same venue as 2003, Moseley Private Park, Birmingham, UK.

Retaining the same style, flavour and above all, quality of 2003’s festival with an artist line up that yet again shouts supreme excellence.  The colossal reputation earned by the outstanding quality of the festival has meant that the top players from around the world have kept these dates open to ensure that they can play here.  “We have to do it again, every single person that attended this years festival was truly ‘blissed out’ - moments like that are too rare in life – we have to make it happen again – and we have the righteous team to do it!” (Dave Alexander 2003).

This years line up repeats the artistic excellence of last year.  We are bringing across for the first time artists like the incredible Sylvain Luc, the tremendous Ferre Brothers, the awesome Jimmy Rosenberg, the legendary Matcho Winterstein along with old friends that deserve no lesser praise such as Angelo Debarre, Gary Potter, Ultraswing, Paul Vernon Chester etc etc.

Last year L’Esprit Manouche turned on so many new people to this style of music.  The local record shops in Birmingham sold out of this genre on the first day of the festival, 17 year olds dragged along by their parents to the Saturday came back with more of their pals on the Sunday.”

Last years main aims were to honour the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the legendary Django Reinhardt, (Europe’s most influential contribution to the world of jazz and the most famous
Manouche of all), and to benefit the charity BCAT.  We intend to maintain those goals and improve the general awareness of the enjoyment that can be taken from this music and culture.
