‘Simplicity. That was the challenge I had to face when composing the music of this third disc on which we welcome Tony Malaby, whom we met through Daniel Humair early in 2007.
Simplicity, because it's an aspect of music which touches me. Although we didn't discuss the subject with Tony before the recording, it became apparent that he shared the same musical aims : for him, nothing is more exciting than the challenge of simple music, recorded without a safety net, which leads to spontaneous improvisation.
Africa was one of my sources of inspiration, but so was sacred music (O sacrum convivium) in which I was steeped from a very early age. Musics at once different and complex which, I hope, here blend with simplicity.' Stéphane Kerecki
