Estonian jazz and world music stars at the Tallinn Music Week!

March 27th and 28th at 20.00 in NO99 theatre

On March 26th – 28th the first Estonian music festival Tallinn Music Week will take place in Tallinn, presenting 60 groups during one weekend on different stages. At the same time Tallinn will also be a meeting place for music professionals throughout Europe to discuss the key issues in music business, get acquainted with the local music scene and find new exciting artists for their festivals and labels.

Jazzkaar has put together a two-day program in the NO99 theatre building, where in the theatre hall and jazz club 17 jazz, ethno and blues bands will take turns performing. Each group has 25 minutes for the performance. The format of the event allows the audience to move from one hall to the other while listening to almost ten different bands during one evening. This way it becomes possible to get a great overview of our jazz and ethno scenes.

The Jazz Showcase on Friday, March 27th presents the most superb jazz musicians with their best current projects: the compositions of Rein Rannap and Tiit Kikas promise to be filled with surprises, a nuance filled guitar duel are offered by Ain Agan-Teemu Viinikainen Quartet, Tõnu Naissoo Hammond Duo come armed with a new instrument and fresh sounds, Helin -Mari Arder with her programme „Cafe Anglais“, Peedu Kass 005, Kadri Voorand, Tallinn Free Trio and Sofia Rubina Nujazz project present their newest work. The opening act of the Jazz evening will be by the master duo Rein Rannap - Tiit Kikas, at nightfall the event will be brought to closure by Sofia Rubina’s seductive Nujazz.

The World Music Showcase on Saturday, March 28th will include folk, ethnojazz, blues etc. The kick-off will be by the creative group ASK (including Taavi Kerikmäe, Mart Soo and Andres Noormets), whose work is an immediate improvisation on the themes ordered by the audience. Svjata Vatra, Gjangsta and Paabel come from Viljandi to present their best creative power based on heritage music. Villu Veski and Tiit Kalluste will be performing with a program „Best of Nordic Sounds” inspired by different folk music. Elletuse with Liisi Koikson brings runic songs to the modern times, Tuule Kann and Jaak Sooäär tie together the sound of zithers and guitars. The program will also include Drum Prana, who unites ethno beats with modern sounds. The evening will be brought to an end by an already internationally highly valued blues duo Bullfrog Brown from Tartu.

The concerts of the Tallinn Music Week in theatre NO99 present a unique chance to get reacquainted with the current jazz and world music scene before the spring comes with the Jazzkaar main festival and to support and give recognition to our local musicians on their way to the big music world.
