Scott Kinsey was exposed
to all kinds of music and began experimenting on the piano by the
age of 4. Scotts parents are very musical and supportive of
the arts and he was always encouraged to study and play music in
every capacity at school. He joined his first neighborhood band
at age 12 on a Moog Opus 3. Scott continued his formal musical
education at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston
and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelors of Music Degree in piano
performance.
Immediately upon graduating,
Scott was imported to Los Angeles by the critically acclaimed
electric jazz band Tribal Tech. Within one year Scott was
nominated for best new talent in Keyboard Magazine. A feature
article ensued in Keyboard Magazine February 1993. In February
1999 Keyboard magazine featured Scott again in a feature
Article/Master Class entitled "Jazz with Teeth".
In addition to touring the world
with Tribal Tech since 1991, Scott has performed on 18
albums including four Tribal Tech CD releases: Illicit,
Face First, Reality Check and the latest Thick,
which he also co-produced. Tribal Tech will resume in the studio
March 2000 to record their second album for ESC records.
In addition to playing on Scott Hendersons first solo album Dog Party, Scott
also played and co-produced Hendersons acclaimed solo blues
project Tore Down House which features vocalist Thelma
Houston.
Gary Willis has also utilized Scotts unique
musicianship and production skills as keyboardist and co-producer
on his solo albums No Sweat and Bent.
Scott, making a rare appearance
on Hammond B-3, joined renowned blues guitarist Robben Ford for
his 1997 Tiger Walk tour. Later that year he accompanied
classical flautist Patrick Gallois on his Vivaldi: The Four
Seasons European tour. In addition, Scott traveled throughout
Australia with the Gary Willis Band which features the world
renowned drummer Dennis Chambers and saxophonist Bob Berg.
Scotts musical association
with multiple Grammy award winner, Bob Belden (who referred to
Scott in the liner notes of his 1997 album Shades of Blue
as "The synthesist of my generation"), has led to the
Blue Note recordings Prince Jazz, Shades of Blue, Strawberry
Fields and Tapestry featuring noted jazz artists such
as Cassandra Wilson, Tim Hagans, Holly Cole, Greg Osby, Don Alias, Ira Coleman and Billy Kilson.
Scott wrote, produced and mixed
the title cut on Tim Hagans' Grammy nominated Blue Note release Animation/Imagination.
This album fuses Jazz elements with contributions from noted Drum
& Bass programmers DJ Smash, DJ Kingsize and Matthew
Backer.
Kurt Rosenwinkel's January 2000
Verve release, The Enemies of Energy features Scott with
saxophonist Mark Turner, bassist Ben Street and drummer Jeff
Ballard.
Scott is currently working on a
col-lead album with Steve Tavaglione, which features performers
such as Vinnie Colaiuta, Bob Hurst, Zach Danziger, Cyril Atef and
