Since many years he is one of the leading and most employed saxophone players in Europe.

In November 1958 Tony Lakatos was born in Budapest in a musicians family. He started playing the saxophone at the age of 15 and studied from 1976 - 1979 at the Bela Bartok Music College in Budapest. Already 1981 he moved to Germany, where he still lives today. During that time he played with an endless number of German and international musicians. Gigantic is also the number of LP's and CD's that came out with him either as a sideman or as leader: More than 150 !!!

Since 12 years now he is member of Jasper van't Hoff's so successful group "Pili Pili". 5 CD's have been recorded with them. Since 1993 he is regular member and soloist of the radio big band of the "Hessische Rundfunk" in Frankfurt, Germany. However, again and again he forms his own groups, tours and records. His sidemen include so famous names as Kirk Lightsey, Al Foster, Cecil McBee, Billy Hart, JoAnne Brackeen, Santi DeBriano, Peter O'Mara, Trilok Gurtu, Toto Blanke, Terri Lyne Carrington, George Mraz and many, many others.
