| Comprised of 5 stellar musicians from New York, Global Theory
takes you on a musical odyssey to places past, present and
future. Drawing upon their vast collective influences of jazz
rock, r&b, funk and world music, their sound is unique and
refreshing - experimental yet accessible to all. Their material
ranges from soft, moody and enigmatic tunes to hard-hitting,
rhythmically explosive and harmonically innovative flights.
They have performed several successfull shows in New York and
have recently completed a studio recording featuring some of
their highly original material. In existence now for almost
three years, Global Theory's members include:
DAVID GILMORE, guitarist, who is best known
for his contributions to the ground-breaking group Steve Coleman
& Five Elements and the M-Base Collective, Lost Tribe, Trilok
Gurtu's Crazy Saints, The Don Byron Quintet, and most
recently with the great saxophonist Wayne Shorter, and
has recorded and performed with many others including
Muhal Richard Abrams, Cassandra Wilson, Greg Osby, Sam
Rivers, Dave Holland and Geri Allen.
DAVID BINNEY, saxophonist, co-founder and creative force
behind the innovatice group Lost Tribe, and has also performed and/or
recorded with The Marvin "Smitty" Smith Electric Band, The Gil Evans
Orchestra, Chip White Band, Drew Gress, Lonnie Plaxico, Medeski, Martin and
Wood, as well as recorded three albums as a leader.
URI CAINE, pianist, has recorded two albums as a leader, in
addition to playing and/or recording with some of the finest names
in jazz including Philly Joe Jones, Hank Mobley, Freddie Hubbard,
Bobby Watson, Phil Woods, Clark Terry, J.J. Johnson and Donald Byrd,
and more contemporaries like Don Byron, Dave Douglas, and Robben Ford.
Multi-talented bassist JAMES GENUS, equally skilled on
electric and acoustic bass, has been sought after by such
notables as the Brecker Brothers, Roy Haynes, Horace Silver,
Branford Marsalis, Greg Osby, David Sanborn, Don Pullen, Nat Adderly,
Bob Berg, Bob James and Steps Ahead.
GENE JACKSON's reputation as a deep-swinging, power
drummer had made him one of the most in-demand drummers today.
He has recorded and/or performed with Herbie Hancock, Kevin
Eubanks, Robin Eubanks, Dave Holland, Terence Blanchard, Branford
