Enzo Favata plays soprano sax, sopranino and various ethnic wind instruments, in particular Sardinian ones; in his musical research he combines the arcane with the technological by experimenting with acoustic instruments, electronics and computer technology.
As a concert artist, after playing traditional jazz for a
few years, he has developed his artistic expression through various projects, one of which is the Jana Project, a group that includes well-known European musicians; with this group and with the Tangram Trio, another experimental group playing avant-garde contemporary jazz, Enzo Favata performs in important concerts in Italy, Europe and Japan.
He has had various acknowledgements from national critics, such as the RAI (Italian Radio & T.V.) "1991 New Music for Orion" award; he won the Tenco Prize for folk composers in 1989, together with the group Calic (he was playing with at that time); in 1995 he received an international award with the Tangram Trio at Poitiers, France, winning the biennial European Competition for Musical Improvisation. He is currently involved in various projects concerning both music for cultivated tastes and popular music.
His music is often used for sound-tracks for videos, films and dance sequences.
He began working for the RAI in 1989 as a composer of sound-tracks for radio dramas, documentaries and signature tunes. At the beginning of 1993 he made his debut as a writer of sound-tracks for films with the music for the German film set in Sardinia "Con amore ... Fabia", directed by Maria Teresa Camoglio and produced by Shram Films of Berlin; he repeated this experience in 1995 with the film "Il cielo è sempre più blu", directed by Antonello Grimaldi.
He continues to write sound-tracks for dance sequences, theatrical works and multimedial sets, and collaborates on various RAI programmes, broadcast on the national network.
Since 1990 he has been in charge of the music workshop of the
Associazione Archivi del Sud (Southern Archives Association) in Alghero, where he has carried out interactive projects, uniting various musical fields and collaborating with musicians from the Mediterraean area.
He began teaching in 1994 with courses to popularize this new language of music; he periodically holds musical appreciation courses in various places in Sardinia.
He is the Art Director of the TAM TAM International Percussion Festival, held in Alghero since 1993.
He has made various records which are on sale in Europe, the U.S.A. and Japan.
Breve profilo
