The idea about the Days of Jazz in Liepaja, later transforming into International Jazz Music Festival “Aile Jazz” was generated in 2005.

There were four responsive hearts, all beating in the rhythm of jazz, who met – Valdis Mors (the sponsor of the festival – “AILE grupa”), Liepja Culture Department (the organizer of the festival), Jekabs Ozolins (the artistic director of the festival) and Julian Joseph (the godfather of the festival, British composer and pianist).

Supporting the recording of music disc “Crossroads” (featuring Liepaja Symphony Orchestra and the music by Raimonds Pauls) where classical music meets jazz, the UPB Holding company “AILE group” and its leader Valdis Mors knew that this music disc needs to be continued. And together with Liepaja Culture Department, Jekabs Ozolins and his jazz orchestra “Liepaja Big Band” they generated the idea about a festival in Liepaja dedicated to jazz music. But the brilliant British pianist and composer Julian Joseph had been in Liepaja already earlier as a participant of the International Piano Star Festival and had expressed a wish to come back again!

Side by side with festivals “Rigas ritmi” and “Saulkrasti Jazz” Liepaja Jazz Festival presents a new music tradition in the western part of Latvia. Why not offer this wonderful opportunity to Liepaja and Kurzeme people – to meet the jazz music stars from Latvia and abroad?!
