An internationally respected composer, arranger and trombonist, Mike Gibbs has worked with many music luminaries, including Pat Metheny, John McLaughlin, John Scofield, Gary Burton, Whitney Houston, Peter Gabriel and Bill Frisell. His pulsating compositions blend the colours of Africa, Charles Ives, Messiaen and rock into a unique jazz style. Tonight he celebrates his 80th birthday with an 18-piece big band line-up that reads like a Who’s Who of jazz stars.

Gibbs’ music is full of intriguing inner detail that does not deflect from the ultimate destiny of his pieces. BBC Music Magazine
