Ahoy, Woman Power! With Maqueque, Jane Bunnett, the Canadian transverse-flute and soprano sax player has put together a superb ensemble of Cuban musicians. What began as a mentoring project has developed in the last five years into an individual band: today one cannot imagine the North American jazz scene without Jane Bunnett & Maqueque and their energetic mix of rhythm-driven jazz and Afro-Cuban melodies.
