06 May 2014

From the twilight zone through jazz, rock, noise and electronics to stardom.

Andrew d'Angelo (USA), alto saxophone, bass clarinet; Nate Wooley (USA), trumpet; Hilmar Jensson (ICEL), electric guitar; Jozef Dumoulin (B), Fender Rhodes; Tim Dahl (USA), electric bass; Teun Verbruggen (B), drums, electronica

The powerful Bureau of Atomic Tourism – or The BOAT – is an avant-garde free jazz formation led by charismatic drummer Teun Verbruggen. At the request of the 2011 Follow the Sound Festival (deSingel, Antwerp), Teun gathered some exceptional musicians for a trip to the twilight zone between jazz, rock, noise and electronics. The result exceeded all expectations. The BOAT showed itself as a full-oiled band, enjoying the force of improvisation along with great compositions.

“In case anyone wants to have some musical concepts overturned, jackhammered and then put together again in a unique, powerful way, then take your chance and watch out for the next tour of these guys!” – Simone Mani, April 2013, after the concert at AMR in Geneva, Switzerland.
