Duerst Thomas

Thomas Dürst was born Feb. 7th 1957 in Basel, Switzerland

He started to play the double bass when he was 15.

Studies and diploma at the "Swiss Jazz School" in Berne with Rolf Aberer and Eric Peter from 1976 to 1981.

Since 1983 he is a teacher for bass and ensemble at the "Swiss Jazz School" www.sjs.ch/index2.html, and at the “Hochschule der Künste Bern” HKB www.hkb.bfh.ch.

Since 1978 innumerable engagements for concerts, festivals, tours, studio, symphonyorchestra, theater- and filmmusic... with a lot of different  musicans, bands, orchestras. Played on the jazzfestivals from Willisau, Montreux, Zürich, Berne, Schaffhausen, Berlin, Nürnberg, Leverkusen, Riga, Moskau, Bombay, La Paz, Bogota... and of course in a lot of clubs. He is one of the most sought-after freelance bass players in Switzerland.

He plays/has played and recorded with: John Tchicai, Al Grey, Hal Singer, Sammy Price, Glenn Ferris, Sandy Patton, Vince Benedetti, Joe Haider, Rick Margitza, Urs Blöchlinger, Peter Schärli, Donat Fisch, Harald Haerter, Giancarlo Nicolai, Hot Strings, Michael Beck, Swing Express, Nadja Stoller, Colin Vallon, Ithamara Koorax...

Since 1994 Thomas Dürst is an active member of the Langnau Jazz Nights event group. Furthermore he is organizing the Jazz Workshops during the festival. www.jazz-nights.ch
