Brussels Jazz Orchestra

Dear Director, Programmer,   The Brussels Jazz Orchestra is a 16 piece big band which has played high standard jazz for over 10 years. The orchestra’s musicians are among the best on the European jazz scene (ao. Nathalie Loriers, Serge Plume, Frank Vaganée, Bo Van Der Werf, Marc Godfroid, …).   The orchestra continues to work vigorously on its international career. It has a long list of festivals it was invited to perform at: “Jazz Sous Les Pommiers” (FR, 2003), Feldkirch Festival (AUT, 2003), World Port Jazz Festival (NL, 2003), Jazz Middelheim (2003), Litchfield Jazz Festival (USA, 2002), North Sea Jazz Festival (NL, 2001 + 2002), Dublin Jazz Week (IRL, 2001), Annual Conference of IAJE (2001), … .   Over the years the BJO has co-operated with a number of very famous musicians such as Maria Schneider, Philip Catherine, Toots Thielemans, Phil Woods, Kenny Werner, Dave Liebman, Bob Mintzer, Tom Harrell, Wallace Roney, Kenny Wheeler, … , all of which were very pleased with BJO’s  unique sound, the ensemble and the performances of the musicians as soloists.   This year, the album “Naked in the Cosmos” (label: Jazz ’n Pulz; www.jazzimpuls.com), featuring Kenny Werner (USA) was released. This American pianist insisted on recording his repertoire with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra only. This CD has had some excellent reviews in the US, Belgium and Holland. “Naked in the Cosmos” is due for release in France, Germany, Switzerland and other European countries shortly.   The BJO will tour with this program in the festival season of 2004.   In 2002, “The Music of Bert Joris” was released (on the W.E.R.F. label; www.dewerf.be). Bert Joris is the home composer and arranger of the BJO. He also plays the trumpet in the Philip Catherine en Philippe Aerts quartet.
