Welcome to the world famous Brecon Jazz festival 2012 and Orchard’s first year as operator of this cultural heritage event – a responsibility we acknowledge as well as being an exciting privilege. Based in Wales we’ve grown up with nearly 30 years of Brecon Jazz, and had some fantastic experiences here, in this beautiful setting. We aim to recapture some of that magic that has made Brecon such a thrilling place to be on the second weekend of August over the decades.
We won’t be able to do this overnight. Circumstances dictate that 2012 will be an interim year with over 22 concerts programmed as well as some workshops and master classes in a very short space of time – but we believe this is a powerful line-up, covering the broad territory that Jazz music occupies. From legendary names such as Dionne Warwick and Roy Ayers to the likes of Neil Cowley and Lighthouse, to collaborations put together by this year’s artist-in-residence Huw Warren to emerging and Welsh Jazz talent, and late club nights in the Market Hall.
We’ve also listened to local people and visitors and are bringing some welcome colour and atmosphere back to the streets of Brecon with a variety of family friendly street entertainment throughout the weekend, and Brecon Fringe has done a great job in programming music in bars, venues and around the town to complement our programme.
We’ve received so much goodwill and co-operation since we were appointed from local people and organisations in this lovely town and surrounding area. We appreciate how much Brecon Jazz means to so many people, and are committed to delivering an outstanding event this year and in the future.
