The Count Basie Orchestra: on tour in May 2013

The legendary world famous Count Basie Orchestra ™® dir. by Dennis Mackrel with special guest vocalist Avails 2013: - May 9th - May 25th THE COUNT BASIE ORCHESTRA is one of the oldest and best big bands in existence. Countless awards (17 Grammies) and millions of adoring fans create a record of undeniable quality and musicianship for this ensemble. It might be incredible to imagine that this big band, first devised by Count Basie in 1936, is still going strong today. Many band members have come and gone through the years, but there are still members playing today who actually played with Count Basie, namely Clarence Banks on trombone, John Williams on baritone saxophone and James Leary on bass. Their unique sound, combining Kansas City Blues and Swing with an intensity and rhythm all their own, is and always has been immediately recognizable as the “Basie Sound” , it is simply a POWERHOUSE. THE COUNT BASIE ORCHESTRA of TODAY still consists of nineteen performers (including vocalist), all committed to upholding the tradition of this “American Institution” through the completely original Count Basie repertoire combined with newer material. The Orchestra recently recorded with Jamie Cullum and Tony Bennett and had huge success with their latest album “Ray sings, Basie swings” in 2007. The Count Basie Orchestra is with fresh power under new leadership by Dennis Mackrel since fall 2012 !
