8. Jazz ExTempore - 22 - 26. 10. 2012.

Liburnia Jazz announces the 8th Issue of the Project “Jazz Ex Tempore”, which will take place from 22nd to 26th October 2012 in Opatija.

To this date, Jazz Ex Tempore has involved over 30 artists from 20 countries all over the world, who during their stay in Opatija held about 25 open workshops. The music created during the project won three National Discography Awards “Porin” for jazz music, and it has been presented on concert tours in Croatia, United Kingdom, Italy, Bulgaria, Netherlands, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia.

The Art Director of the Project Elvis Stanic has choosen artists from Costa Rica/United States (Luis Bonnilla) Italy (Adriana Vasques), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Amar Češljar) and Serbia (Vladimir Samardziċ).

Since all of them are true connoisseurs to their own traditional music and modern musical trends, their task will be to explore and compare our traditional music with the musical heritage of other countries participating in this project.

By default, the meetings and collaborations have mostly been converted into a fusion of folk and contemporary music forms, so this season we also expect a creation of new, quite unusual musical form, such as "sevdah salsa." By now the audience could have already heard the artist from Mali experiencing the Istrian balun, and how it was transformed using traditional Malian music forms (2005th - Cheick Tidiane Seck), Sardinian traditional songs as seen by Russian artist (2007th - Yuri Goloubev), or how has a Cuban drummer heard the Macedonian “oro” and fitted it into his own rhythmic idioms (2006th - Leonardo Jose Angel Rodriguez).

All interested in such themes are invited to workshops which will take place in the Villa Antonio every night at 20.00h. From the 23. to 25. October artists will lead workshops open to all audience, so called „ jazz talks“ , intended to get a closer look on various instruments and cultures, as well on musicians' personal musical journeys and individuall experiences. Workshops are wide- informal and are intended for the general public, as well to musicians and anyone interested in exploring different cultures, or get some close-up on artists.

Workshop schedule is as follows:

23.10, Tuesday – Luis Bonilla - Band coaching  24.10., Wednesday – Adriana Vasques – Vocalise: voice as instrument  25.10., Thursday – Amar Češljar – How to play (not to beat) the drums

Final Concert will be held in the Villa Angiolina at Friday, 26.10. starting at 21.00.

Tickets for the final concert can be purchased one hour before the concert, priced at 50.00 kn, while participating in the workshops freely and completely free of charge.
